How to Improve CPU Performance

How to Improve CPU Performance

CPUs are undeniably the brains of the computer. Thus, knowing how to improve CPU performance is essential no matter what problems you may have with your computer and to prevent problems from arising in the future.

Even the best specific-purpose products need to be tailored to your needs even though all manufacturers claim theirs is the best. Even the best CPU for gaming, for example, might not be perfect right out of the box.

We’ll cover the most important tricks and the best practices not only for improving CPU performance, but also for maintaining it and making sure you get the most enjoyment out of your purchase. Since improving your CPU performance can boost your system overall, but also since the fixes are simple and quick, the CPU is a good place to start.

1. Unclutter to Improve CPU Performance

Why does a CPU get bogged down, slow, and unable to process lots of data as quickly as you want it to?

The problem is applications and processes that bog down the CPU. You might even find that some of these come pre-installed, so the game might seem rigged right away, but don’t worry, you’re in control.

What do we mean by that? Programs that are installed but never run are one of the main causes of a slow CPU. For each time you boot up and use your computer, these are used up in memory, disk space, and processing power. PC manufacturers often bundle bloatware with their computers, either trial versions or limited editions, to entice users to purchase the full version or upgrade.

This is especially true of utility programs that run at startup automatically, trying to provide protection by cleaning up viruses or disk space, but in many cases, you don’t even notice they are running or that they are there.

If you are that resource-strapped, uninstalling these programs might help your PC run faster, and it’s still good form to only keep what you need. With the free Microsoft tool known as AutoRuns for Windows, you can also stop programs from running automatically at startup. This tool will display everything that runs automatically when you start Windows, and let you uncheck the box next to any program that you wish to stop doing so.

Furthermore, knowing how to lower CPU usage is essential for the reasons listed.

2. Improve CPU Performance by Overclocking

Overclocking CPUs is not a skill reserved for the technically-inclined. In simple terms, overclocking involves pushing your system beyond its limit – since manufacturers tend to dampen their out-of-the-box clock speeds with conservative estimates so the system doesn’t overheat – and getting the highest processing speed your system is capable of.

With overclocking, your processor goes almost limitless, and you can ensure stability of your computer, particularly when it comes to temperature.

By searching and following specific guides, the right apps and tools make it easy to overclock your system to improve its performance.

When overclocking safely and successfully, you must consider two factors: ideal cooling methods, such as efficient CPU coolers, and the possibility of upgrading certain components. Purchasing new parts might seem pointless, but you’re still getting more in less time and at a much lower cost.

It is important to follow guides for your CPU and components because even two CPUs with the same model number from the same manufacturer can have differing results and speeds depending on the other components.

3. Improve CPU Performance: Windows 10 Guide

In addition to new features and the ability to make your hardware more efficient, Windows 10 is also prone to compatibility issues, failed hardware, malware, and various bugs.

The first step to improving CPU performance on Windows 10 is to keep your system updated regularly.

Updates can be system updates, driver updates, or updating your operating system to the latest “version” of Windows 10, the latest build.

Often, if you’re experiencing performance issues, an update might be necessary.

Open Settings (by typing it in the Search box) or right-clicking the Start button to check for updates.

  • Click on Update & Security, then Windows Update in Settings.
  • Select Check for Updates.
  • Under the heading that says Optional updates are available, click on Download and install now if the option is available.
  • You will need to restart your computer to apply the updates.

To update Windows to the latest version, follow these steps until you click Check for Updates, and then:

  • Under the Feature Update heading, click Download and install now if it’s available.
  • Click Restart Now and let your computer do its thing. Don’t turn it off during the process.

In addition to third-party applications, Windows 10 includes a built-in feature to update drivers.

  • Open Device Manager by searching for it.
  • The device causing the problem can be expanded by clicking the plus sign next to it.
  • Right-click the device you wish to update (such as your Display model under the Display tab) and choose Update Driver. Microsoft will then search for the most appropriate and latest drivers for the device automatically online.

Ultimately, however, third-party applications seem to work best for most.

Here’s a neat trick to improve CPU performance by ensuring your CPU gets the cooling it needs. We’ll change the PC’s Cooling Policy settings and Minimum Processor State settings so that the CPU cooling fans run faster so that the processor runs faster – without this, Windows 10 automatically idles the CPU if temperatures are high so that the system is protected.

  • Go to the Control Panel by clicking Start or searching.
  • Navigate to Change Plan Settings, then Advanced Power Settings, after clicking Power Options.
  • Extend the list for Processor Power Management, and then the one for Minimum Processor State. Change “Plugged in” to 100.
  • Extend the list for System Cooling Policy. Change the setting to Active.

Voila! Increase your CPU performance while protecting your PC from damage!
